Every time you finish playing on your PS4, it’s a good idea to turn it off. This not only aids in power conservation but also extends the life of your console. There are multiple methods exist for turning off the PS4.
The simplest method is to enter the main menu with your controller and turn off the PS4 there. However, occasionally you might forget your controller or the battery might have died. There are therefore more options to shut down the console without using it, as well as a setting for an automatic shutdown in case you forget.
Turn Off Your PS4 By Via Controller
Ensure that the PS4 home screen is where you are. To return to the home screen while playing any game or app, simply hit the PS button.
- Go into the Function screen by pressing up on the controller’s D-pad.
- Go to the right side and select: Power > Power Options.
- Select Turn Off PS4.
There is also the option to put your PS4 into Rest Mode, which allows the console to charge the controller, resume downloads, and perform other operations while conserving power.
Using the PS button on the controller is another simple way to quickly turn off your PS4:
- Recall the Quick Menu by pressing and holding on the PS button on your controller.
- Select Turn Off PS4.
Use the PS4 Power Button
There is still a way to turn off or put your console into rest mode even if you don’t have access to your controller for any reason. The location of the Power button will vary depending on the PS4 model you own.
It will be in the center of the front of the original PS4 console. It is located on the bottom left side of the PS4 Pro. Additionally, it is located on the left side of the PS4 Slim right next to the disc eject button.
So, press and hold the power button on the PS4 for around 7 seconds or until you hear it beep twice in order to turn it off. Before the console completely turns off, a white light should be visible.
If you want to put your PS4 into Rest Mode, press and hold the button until you hear one beep. The console should illuminate an orange light to show that it is in the Rest Mode now.
Set Time Until PS4 Turns Off
Enabling auto turnoff on your PS4 console is an excellent way to conserve energy. Depending on what kind of activity you’re engaged in, you can adjust the shutdown timer’s timing.
To do that, follow these instructions:
- Head to your PS4’s home screen.
- Press up on the D-pad, scroll to the right and enter Settings.
- Go to Power Save Settings > Set Time Until PS4 Turns Off.
Then you may decide whether to set distinct times for Media Playback or General (Applications). While you choose the second option, the timer will be set for when you are streaming video, such as on Netflix. The first choice will use the timer when you are in a game or other application.
